The surging price of Microsoft shares returned US tech tycoon Bill Gates back to the top of Forbes's world's billionaires list, with his $76 billion beating out Mexico's Carlos Slim's $72 billion. * Bill Gates The annual list, released Monday, counted 1,645 men and women as billionaires, with an average wealth of $4.5 billion and a collective wealth of $6.4 trillion, up $1 trillion from a year ago. Gates, co-founder of the US software firm, showed his staying power at the top - the world's richest man for 15 of the past 20 years, according to Forbes - despite spending recent years giving away large sums of money to global health and anti-poverty programs. Gates owns about 4.4 percent of Microsoft, making up less than 20 percent of his total fortune. But the company's share price has risen 25 percent over the past year, and, along with gains in other assets, he has added $7 billion to his fortune since a year ago, according to Forbes. Slim, with a hand in everything from telecommunications (America Movil) to mining, finance and industry (Grupo Carso), to retailing and real estate across the Americas region, was worth $1 billion less than a year ago, hit in part by sagging markets in South America. In third was Spain's Amancio Ortega, whose pockets have filled with profits from fashion: his hugely successful Inditex garment empire, parent of popular chains Zara, Pull & Bear, and Bershka. More recently, Ortega heavily invested in real estate in Europe and the United States; his worth was put at $64 billion. A familiar cast of mega-wealthy filled out the rest of the top ten: US investment guru Warren Buffett ($58.2 billion); software group Oracle's founder and chief executive Larry Ellison ($48 billion); US industrialists and brothers Charles and David Koch (each with $40 billion); Las Vegas casino king Sheldon Adelson ($38 billion); Walmart heiress Christy Walton ($36.7 billion) and her brother Jim Walton ($34.7 billion). Together the $507 billion held by the top ten is larger than the entire size of the economy of Norway, or Belgium or Poland in 2012. - 31 billionaires under 40 - US billionaires dominated the list, with 492, followed by 152 from China and 11 from Russia. Forbes said two-thirds of them made their own fortunes, while 13 percent inherited. The rest took fortunes they received and built them up to the $1 billion-plus level. The biggest climb on the list in the year came from Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg. The public sale of the company's stock more than doubled his net worth to $28.5 billion, leaving him at number 21, just behind Hong Kong's venerable tycoon Li Kashing and just ahead of Italian chocolatier Michele Ferrero. Zuckerberg, 29, led a group of 31 billionaires under 40 years old. Youngest, at age 24, was Perenna Kei - also known as Ji Peili - the 85 percent shareholder of real estate company Logan Property Holdings, which went public in Hong Kong in December. Her father Ji Haipeng is chairman and chief executive of the company. Saudi investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, a nephew of the oil giant's king, was likely to remain unhappy with Forbes after blasting it last year for allegedly understating his wealth. Forbes put his fortune this year at just $20.4 billion - enough for a ranking of number 30 - compared to $20 billion a year ago. Defending itself last year, Forbes said the prince "systematically exaggerates" his wealth. Last week Alwaleed sent out a press release noting that the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a rival of Forbes, put his fortune at $30.5 billion. In the statement, he assailed Forbes for "use of incorrect data" and said its approach "seemed designed to disparage Middle Eastern financial institutions such as the Saudi stock exchange."

We're not quite sure who John Travolta introduced before Idina Menzel took the stage at the 86th Annual Academy Awards, and apparently, neither is the Twitterverse. While the 60-year-old star had plenty of kind words to say about "the wickedly talented, one and only Adele Dazeem," he completely botched the Frozen star's name...and the flub didn't go unnoticed. Not only were the folks on Twitter buzzing over the Grease star's epic snafu, but a few famous faces also took to the social media site to comment on the Oscar hiccup. Here's what the stars are saying (stay away from Google today, Travolta!). Almost immediately after Travolta's misstep, two parody Twitter accounts, @AdeleDazim and @AdelaDazeem, popped up on the web. "THANK YOU, JORN TROMOLTO!," the second spoof account wrote while the first posted, "Travolta never bothered me anyway," as the celebs continued to poke fun at Travolta's epic mispronunciation. 12 Years a Slave Feud? Steve McQueen and John Ridley Seemingly Shade Each Other at the Oscars

They say actions speak louder than words. But was that the case last night for Steve McQueen and John Ridley? After all, many couldn't help but notice how the 12 Years a Slave director and the film's Oscar-winning screenwriter failed to acknowledge each other during the telecast as the movie was picking up awards. For instance, when Ridley was walking to the stage to accept his Best Adapted Screenplay statuette, he and McQueen appeared to completely ignore each other. What's more, Ridley didn't even mention McQueen in his acceptance speech. Later, when 12 Years a Slave nabbed Best Picture, McQueen, in turn, neglected to mention Ridley during his speech. Needless to say, the behavior of both men during Hollywood's biggest night has created speculation that there's some sort of feud going on. Adding fuel to the rumor fire is a tweet sent out by Deadline founder Nikki Finke, which reads, "My sources attributing John Ridley-Steve McQueen cold shoulder at Oscars tonight to dispute over screenplay credit." Ridley also did not bring up McQueen's name the night before after his win at the Independent Spirit Awards. Guess time will tell if these two really have a bit of a beef with each other.

Pope Francis Accidentally Drops F-Bomb During a Public Blessing

We never thought in a million years that we would include the words "pope" and "F-bomb" in one sentence, and yet here we are. Pope Francis shocked the crowd who gathered for his weekly blessing on Sunday at the Vatican when he accidentally let a swear word slip. And it was the ultimate swear word, too. Instead of saying "caso," which means "case" in Italian, the Pope used the word "cazzo," which is the Italian equivalent of the word "f--k." Oh, my! Please stand by while we clutch our pearls and fan ourselves. The 76-year-old Pope of the Catholic Church quickly realized his error and corrected himself, but it was too late. He's the first Pope in history to drop the F-bomb in public. Probably. Most likely. We think. Here is the part of the speech translated to English: "If each one of us does not amass riches only for oneself, but half for the service of others, in this f--k...in this case the providence of God will become visible through this gesture of solidarity." We think he should have kept the swear word in there so it would read like "in this f--king case." That would really hammer the point home.

Chris Brown Parties With Karrueche Tran After Beginning Outpatient Rehab Program

Chris Brown hit the town last night. Just hours after E! News exclusively reported that he was no longer under inpatient care in rehab, the R&B singer was spotted stepping out with girlfriend Karrueche Tran on Thursday, Nov. 14. The two attended Jhene Aiko's Sail Out album release party at Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood. A source who was at the event tells E! News that Brown's mood was "regular, real regular." Throughout the night, he and Tran graciously posed for pics with each other and with fans as evidenced by several photos posted on various Instagram and Twitter accounts. E! News exclusively reported on Oct. 29 that the 24-year-old singer had entered an inpatient treatment program to "gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior." On Thursday, Brown's rep told E! News in a statement, "Chris Brown is continuing his rehab program as an outpatient and is also completing his community service in the Los Angeles area. He appreciates all of your encouragement and support." The Grammy winner had checked into rehab for anger management one day after his appearance in court on Oct. 28 regarding an assault charge stemming from a fight that occurred the previous weekend after Brown allegedly punched a man who wanted his autograph. Brown is scheduled to return to court to answer to a charge of simple misdemeanor assault on Nov. 25 and he must stay away from the alleged victim, 20-year-old Parker Isaac Adams, in the meantime. --Reporting by Bruna Nessif and Lindsay Good
